Island Peak Climb

Island Peak, or Imja Tse, sits just south of Lhotse. Topping out at 20,306 feet (6189m), it would be considered a huge peak anywhere else in the world, but here in the Himalayas it is dwarfed by its neighbors. The upper mountain affords fantastic views. For us lowlanders, the air felt mighty thin; for our climbing sherpa Lakpa, it was probably about as difficult as a walk around the block. Then again, he says that climbing Mt. Everest is "very easy!"
